I came to know of this exhibition because for some reason I was invited to the opening by YetiPR. Sadly I could not make this event, but did get to visit yesterday and was blown away. John is a sculptor who somewhere along the way became a theatre designer, responsible for the sets of Equus, Les Misérables, Miss Saigon, Cats, Starlight Express and many many others. His designs are sculptural and three-dimensional – moving away from the early concept of the ‘flats’ encompassing the action, to a notion of the set becoming totally integrated with the production, and on occasion even pulling the audience in to make it a truly immersive experience.
We were fortunate on my visit to meet up with John, and we had an absorbing conversation about the difficulty the artist has in enabling the personal and professional to run in parallel.
I have visited very many exhibitions in my professional life and have rarely been so excited.
